Viking Village

Here's a viking village I built for KidsFest Hartford 2010-- the inspiration was mostly from a thatched roof design that I came up with for a potential model of Plimoth Plantation that we might be doing. The roofs are each 2-plate thick bands with tiles on the top. That allows for each band to be angled in or out, and the little lip on the tile adds another bit of vertical texture to the roof. Of course, it's kinda time-consuming to make roofs in that fashion, and quite brickspensive in terms of dark tan and tan tiles-- so the houses are a little smaller than in reality!
